낮말은 새가 듣고 밤말은 쥐가 듣는다

posted on March 25, 2020

This 잠언 means “Event walls have ears”.

Literal Translation / Meaning: Talk done during day is heard by Birds, and talk done during night is heard by Mouse.

Use (사용시기) This 잠언 can be used when you know someone who has tendency to spill out the secrets for his/her own benefits. To indicate to talk less or not to talk on sensitive topic around those people. As they may cause the harm.

This can be understood by the feeling that you get when you see a villain in Dramas spilling secrets that he/she got to do the dirty work. So if you that get that kind of feeling even for a second, you can use the word to indicate keeping caution.
